Association’s second action involved Mr. Paul Reid, Dublin
The Clinical Dental Technicians Association has successfully concluded its second action. It issued proceedings involving Mr. Paul Reid who has operated under the business names “Crumlin Denture Services”, “Crumlin and Clondalkin Denture Service” and “Crumlin & Inchicore Denture Services”. Mr Reid operates as a Dental Technician. Dental Technicians are not permitted under any circumstances to provide services directly to members of the public.
Mr Reid has furnished an undertaking to the Circuit Court to operate his business solely within the parameters allowed for Dental Practitioners. He is authorised to provide denture manufacture and repair services under a prescription prepared by qualified health professionals such as Dentists and Clinical Dental Technicians. He is permitted to deliver services on a business to business basis and not to members of the public directly. Dental Technicians are not authorised under any circumstances to review, advise, assess, fit or treat in any clinical manner members of the public. They are not allowed to charge members of the public for any services they provide. The terms of the undertaking entered by Mr. Reid into Court reflect the legal position.
The CDTA is continuing its review of practices by Dental Technicians in Ireland in the provision of their services. The Association is continuing its campaign of information and where necessary enforcement.
